About Me

Dear Parents/Guardians,

My name is Brooke Ridings, and I am the physical education teacher at Pacolet Elementary School.  This is my fourth year teaching physical education at PES, and I am very excited to begin the new school year. Physical education is my passion, and I cannot wait to share my excitement with the students! I graduated from USC-Upstate. I'm also the varsity volleyball coach at Broome High School.

This year, we will be using activities from the SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids) curriculum. Research has shown that students who participate in SPARK P.E. classes each week have higher academic test scores. All students will have many opportunities to practice moderate to vigorous physical activity through this amazing program. Physical Education is an essential part of the total education program.

Other highlights this year include; Fitness Gram testing in August and April (please help your child “study” for these tests by stretching and exercising outside of school), soccer, football, basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, baseball, along with many other exciting activities.

It is very important to remind your child to dress appropriately for physical activity on their assigned P.E. days. For comfort and safety purposes, he/she must wear sneakers and clothes suitable for activity.

To Be A SPARK P.E. STAR,

I will:

Support others and be a Good Sport

Participate and give 100%

Always Think Safety First

Remember to Listen & Follow Directions

Kindness Given Will be Kindness Returned

Each week in physical education class, I will be giving out reward beads for students to put on their shoe laces of their sneakers. Students must earn these beads by showing specific characteristics while participating in physical activity such as: sportsmanship, effort, kindness, team work, and skill.

Physical activity must be done regularly to achieve health benefits.  Therefore, your child’s participation is very important.  If she/he is sick or unable to participate in all activities, please let me know via note or phone call prior to the scheduled class.  It would be helpful if the note states the specific nature of the condition and your suggested restrictions.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ridings
